Let's Change Emsworth!

History Initiative

In high school I participated in a project in which we recorded the stories of World War II veterans in our neighborhood.  At the time there were many and now just 25 years later they are all gone.  If their stories had not been recorded they would have been lost to the past to everyone but their families and friends.

Here we are as a transitioning community with all of the knowledge of each citizen’s past and their parents’ stories from years ago just waiting to be told. In my opinion, for this to be accomplished, all we need is a location, some hard work, and effort.

An Emsworth History Initiative would bring the community together and allow its newest citizens to learn about its past.  We could use the Borough Hall on a monthly basis to set up a one stop archival shop where people can have their stories recorded in audio and video as well as have any of their old photographs digitized and returned with digital copies.

We could work with the Avonworth Historical Society to have speakers and presentations on Emsworth’s history at the park or Borough building and bring the community together to learn about its shared past.

Future generations in Emsworth will be able to access the history of their Borough as told by its past residents.  Current residents can participate in a community project with their friends and neighbors.  The Borough will have benefited from the work we do in the present to preserve its past.
